Roads to the Humber Bridge were clogged with traffic as work begins to upgrade its toll system.
Traffic caused tailbacks as far as Barton-Upon-Humber.
A 15-month programme will see ticket machines introduced allowing customers to pay more quickly.
The work means only two toll booths are open this morning.
