Father wins test case for term-time holiday
The High Court has ruled in favour of a father who refused to pay a £120 fine for taking his daughter on an unauthorised term-time holiday.
Judges today ruled on a test case that could now pave the way for a change in law.

WE SPOKE to parents in Scunthorpe after the High Court ruled in favour of a father who refused to pay a £120 fine for taking his daughter out of school during term-time for an unauthorised holiday.

Man in court on FIVE fraud charges
A 22-year-old Scunthorpe man admitted five offences of fraud by false representation when he appeared before the town's magistrates.
Ryan Andrew Sheridan, of Searby Road, Scunthorpe,was committed to prison for 12 weeks, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to comply with a rehabilitation activity requirement and a 10-hour unpaid work requirement.
He was also ordered to pay compensation of £500.

Drug-driver caught by police
Two men appeared before court on separate drug offences.
James Christian Parker, 41, of Merlin Road, Scunthorpe, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a police direction and possession of cannabis.
He was fined £100, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85.
And, in a separate case before North Lincolnshire magistrates, Samuel Philp, 22, of Pembroke Avenue, Scunthorpe, pleaded guilty to drug-driving.

Antique shop owner's upset as thieves snatch gold bracelets
THE owner of a Brigg jewellery business was left "gutted" after gold bracelets worth a four-figure sum were stolen from her shop.
The charm bracelets were taken from the Second Chance shop, which has been established for 35 years in College Yard in the town centre.

A RUSSIAN mariner died after trapping his leg in a rope and falling overboard at a North Lincolnshire port, an inquest found.
Sergy Gaponov, 40, of Novgorod in Russia, was taken overboard while working on a large cargo vessel at Grove Port, at Gunness on the River Trent, in December 2013.
