A JUDGE told a prolific thief with an "appalling record" he was being locked up "to give the people and shopkeepers of Scunthorpe a break from his behaviour".
Judge Mark Bury told the offender that his spell in prison would be an opportunity to "dry out from alcohol and drugs".
Grimsby Crown Court heard that Keiron Ferguson, 36, of Cottage Beck Road, Scunthorpe, had 54 previous convictions for shop thefts since 2003.
In total, Ferguson was sentenced to eight months in custody.
