Scunthorpe's Got Talent this weekend

Eleven acts will appear in the final of the first-ever Scunthorpe's Got Talent show at the Ashby Mill Road Club tomorrow (Saturday, April 18). The finalists are Jamie Dorham, Kasha Wlley, Bethany Gibson, Holly, Elisha Graham ,Angela Shinns, Ashley and Connor, Lucy McGuire, Jazz Barnard, Jamie Dunstan and Clea Hillsdon. They stand to share in £500 prize money. The curtain goes up at 7.30pm and admission is £2. The master of ceremonies will be Broughton singer Martin Morgan.

Dowse's Fun Fair will be returning to Scunthorpe for a five-day slot. Bosses are pledging to provide fun for all the family. The fair will be at Manor Park, on Burringham Hill, and will be open from Wednesday, April 22 though to Sunday, April 26. Opening times are 5pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.

MEMBERS at Scunthorpe's oldest club will be told at their annual meeting this Sunday (April 19) the business made a profit of £21,432 last year. The profit comes in stark contrast to the £25,000 loss reported in 2013 and is the first surplus for the Ashby Constitutional since 2011. The 20 members of a pub watch have been warned they will face instant expulsion if they do not attend the May meeting or offer an apology for absence. The warning came from secretary/acting chairman Pauline Dickinson after only seven delegates attended the last Barton meeting. Pauline told Bar Fly: "It's unfair that a few are giving up their time and effort to benefit the majority". Currently there are 26 drinkers on the Barton banned list. A heavily used road in Scunthorpe is to be closed to traffic for three weeks. North Lincolnshire Council has made a legal order so work can be carried out on foul and surface water connections to Enderby Road. The closure of this road on the Riddings estate will run from May 4 to 22 inclusive but may vary due to take account of unforeseen circumstances. The alternative route for drivers will be via Thoresby Road and Somerby Road.

SMOKE is said to be visible for more than 20 miles after a fire broke out this morning (Friday, April 17). The incident was reported to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue at around 7.25am. TWO men have been jailed for life for the murder of a man at a house in Gainsborough. Martynas Kupstys and Andrus Giedraitis denied murdering Ivans Zdanovics at his terraced house on Etherington Street in the town between January 15 and January 18 last year. SCUNTHORPE United Football Club will hold a minute's silence as part of a national commemoration for the 30th anniversary of the Bradford City fire disaster. The Iron confirmed via social media that it will take place ahead of next Saturday's (April 25) home game at Glanford Park against Gillingham.
