A18 temporary speed limit to run for 3 months

A temporary speed limit has been announced by North Lincolnshire Council which will be in force on the A18/A161 for more than three months. The 40mph restriction will apply to a stretch of road near Crowle Bank End. The speed limit is for safety reasons while the access road to Keadby Wind Farm is being used by contractors. The 40mph restriction will operate from June 15 to September 30.

A MAN was taken to hospital with burns to his face and arm after a fire "completely destroyed" a building. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the incident happened at a commercial outbuilding on Middlegate Lane, Elsham, shortly before 2.40pm yesterday (Monday, June 8). FIREFIGHTERS were called out to an incident where a cat was hanging from a first floor window. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the incident happened at a property on Dryden Road, Scunthorpe, shortly after 7.35pm last night (Monday, June 8). A GARAGE and its contents were destroyed in a fire. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the incident involved a tumble dryer in a detached garage on Rue De Nozay/Town Hill in Broughton. Firefighters were called out at 7.45pm last night (Monday, June 8) to the incident. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said there was also "slight heat damage" caused to a neighbour's conservatory. HSBC to axe thousands of jobs

HSBC has announced plans to axe thousands of jobs in the UK. The bank, with branches throughout the Scunthorpe area, has not given a precise figure but it is being reported that between 7,000-8,000 jobs could go. The company has not said what impact it could have on staff and branches in North Lincolnshire when asked by the Scunthorpe Telegraph. Air quality alert in Scunthorpe

Sulphur dioxide in Scunthorpe's air rose to a high level today. Asthma sufferers and those with breathing disorders and respiratory complaints can be affected by a reduction in air quality. North Lincolnshire Council, which monitors air quality, recorded a high reading of nine on a scale of 1-10. It was taken at Rowland Road, Scunthorpe, this morning. Low levels of sulphur dioxide were recorded at other stations in Scunthorpe, Killingholme and South Ferriby.
